The objective of the European Union Foodprint project is to develop an integrated strategy for reducing the carbon footprint in the food industry sector. The project identifies, qualifies and implements measures to reduce the carbon footprint of the pastry and flour food industry sector along the supply chain. The duration is 2014-2017.

Aktina participates in the project in order to demonstrate leadership, implement projects that will improve sustainability performance, increase efficiency and contribute to higher public awareness.

As of February 2017 Aktina joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change initiative Climate Neutral Now. Aktina has become carbon neutral by purchasing credits from a wind energy project in India. Aktina is the first company from Greece that has joined the program as well as the first company from the Greek food industry to become carbon neutral.
